The Best Runs To Sign Up For This Year
We’ve got a bit of a love-hate relationship with running. Every now and again, a successful morning jog can get us feeling all Mo Farah but, more often than not, we’re left with a crippling stitch, a sprained ankle or a combination of the two. Not fun.
For some, running for fun just isn’t a thing. But, believe it or not, the world is now awash with fun runs, mud marathons and other events set on inspiring people to start running and have a laugh while they’re at it!
Whether you’re a keen runner or an absolute novice, here are a few of the best running events we think you should give a go this year. Aside from the many health benefits running has to offer, taking part in these runs could be a great way to get social, see the sights and also challenge yourself, something we recommend everyone does more often – you got this!
ADIDAS CITY RUNS
If the great outdoors really isn’t your thing then, fear not, the Adidas City Runs could be right up your street. Yes, these events are still held outside but, rather than thrashing your way through mud or sprinting across fields, you’ll pace the colourful, diverse streets of London. With both Fulham and Shoreditch on the bill, you can expect a fun, lively atmosphere and it’s also the perfect chance to spy some of the capital’s famous landmarks.
LONDON MARATHON
If you’re feeling confident, go all out and take on the mighty London Marathon. For many runners, their goal is to complete this classic marathon and, at 26 miles, it’s no mean feat! It’s also a great chance to raise money for a charity close to your heart because something’s got to make the pain worthwhile, right?! Remember, the half marathon is also an option if you want to ease yourself in and most cities have their own marathon, so you don’t need to journey to The Big Smoke to get involved.
THE WOLF RUN
Shout out to all the thrill-seekers – this one’s for you! The Wolf Run has taken the UK by storm over the last few years, offering mud running, trail running and some tough obstacles for good measure. You’ll have to tackle woodland, lakes and fields so this one’s definitely not for the faint hearted. If you’re feeling especially brave, give this one a go in the winter and prepare to be branded a hero (if you survive)!
TRAIL EVENTS
Bored of flat road runs? Well, how would you like to take on some of the UK’s most challenging running routes around a variety of National Parks? The Trail Events Company focuses on (you guessed it) trail runs, offering both up and down-hill routes for a diverse run. Now, these trail runs promise a challenge to even the most seasoned runners but, in return, you’re guaranteed to come face to face with some of the country’s most amazing scenery and breath-taking views.
THE COLOR RUN
Looking to have a little fun? Well, The Color Run is where it’s at. This energy-filled event sees participants getting covered in multi-coloured paints (otherwise known as ‘colour throws’) throughout the run and also features an array of DJs and bands so runners can dance their way across the finish line. With no winners or official race times, The Color Run is perfect for those who don’t want the usual pressure of a marathon. At 5K, it’s an achievable distance for those new to running and claims to be the ‘happiest 5K on the planet’ – what’s not to love?!
